Where the name comes from

The Leerie

Before electricity, a "leerie" was the lamplighter, a fixture of Scottish street life, especially in Edinburgh, where gas lamps were lit by hand every evening. Ladder over his shoulder, he worked his way down the same cobbled streets at the same hour each night so the town wasn't left in the dark. Robert Louis Stevenson, an Edinburgh native, immortalized him in a children's poem as a quiet, dependable presence, "for we are very lucky, with a lamp before the door."

That's the role we've taken the name for. We don't build the whole journey for you, we light what's next, one step at a time, so the way ahead is visible before you have to walk it. Sometimes that's a tool for one person, sometimes guidance for a team, sometimes a transformation project for an organization. Same job, different scale.

For organizations

Consulting for how your organization works

We help organizations simplify their processes and put AI to practical use, using a consistent method across six service areas.

Services

Six areas we work in, individually or combined.

Business process optimization

We study how work currently happens, identify where it is slow or manual, and redesign the process to run more efficiently.

AI enablement

We identify tasks where AI can reduce repetitive manual work, then implement the tools and train your team to use them.

Digital transformation

We modernize workflows and systems so technology supports how your organization actually works.

Operating-model improvement

We clarify roles, handoffs, and decision-making, so teams know who owns what.

Workflow redesign

We simplify manual, fragmented, or repetitive processes into workflows a team can run reliably.

Modern ways of working

We help teams adopt clearer, more sustainable ways of working day to day.

How we work

Every engagement follows the same four-step process, regardless of size or scope.

01

Understand

Study how work currently happens — people, processes, systems, and constraints.

02

Simplify

Remove unnecessary complexity and redesign the weakest workflows.

03

Enable

Introduce the right tools, AI capabilities, and working practices.

04

Improve

Measure outcomes, refine the model, and build sustainable progress.

FAQ

Common questions

What size of organization do you work with?

Most of our engagements are with small and mid-sized teams that want to fix a specific workflow rather than run a company-wide program. If a process is slow, manual, or unclear, that's usually enough to start.

How long does a typical engagement take?

It depends on scope. A single workflow redesign can take a few weeks. A broader AI enablement engagement usually runs longer, since it includes training your team to run the new process on their own.

Do we need to already know where AI could help?

No — that's usually the first thing we work out together. Part of the Understand step is finding where AI would save real time, rather than adding a tool for its own sake.

Can you help with just one part of the process, not all four steps?

Yes. The four steps describe how we approach any engagement, not a package you have to buy in full. Some clients only need a process audit; others want the full cycle.
